Prof. An Vermeulen
Professor at University Hasselt and Ghent University & director PACK4FOOD. An earned a degree in bioscience engineering from Ghent University in Belgium in 2002, She defended her PhD dissertation in 2008 on the microbial safety and stability of mayonnaise based deli-salads. After her PhD she got the opportunity to join the Pack4Food team, which she now heads with Peter Ragaert. The organization provides a platform for cooperation between the food and packaging industry, research institutes and other stakeholders in food packaging. By conducting joint research projects, training and networking activities, Pack4Food stimulates innovation in food packaging, with a particular focus on packaging materials in the circular economy. Pack4Food is also leading the EU S3 Partnership on Food Packaging.In addition, An Vermeulen is professor at University Hasselt and University of Ghent, where she teaches food preservation techniques and packaging safety. She heads as well the service lab at Ghent University which performs smaller research projects on microbial food spoilage and safety with industrial partners.
