HIMALAYAN MOUNTAINEER
Piotr Pustelnik
Outstanding Himalayan mountaineer, the third Pole to conquer the Crown of the Himalayas and Karakorum – all 14 eight-thousand-meter peaks of the world.
As a doctor of chemical engineering and a researcher at the Faculty of Process Engineering and Environmental Protection at the Technical University of Lodz, he combined the precision of a scientist with the passion of an explorer. He was able to look at the world not only with the eyes of a conqueror, but also with the eyes of an analyst who sees relationships invisible to others.
From May 2016 to May 2023 he was president of the Polish Mountaineering Association (now vice president), and in “Himalayan retirement” he pursued the passion he dreamed of as a child – he became a polar explorer. His polar expeditions included Iceland, Svalbard and Greenland.
He is the author of the book “I, a hermit. autobiography”.
He still dreams of the first Antarctic traverse in the history of Polish polar exploration.
His way to the peaks is not only a story of extreme expeditions, but also a story of determination, overcoming one’s own weaknesses and searching for the limits of human capabilities. The mountains gave him more
than just a collection of peaks – they have also given him a perspective that he enjoys sharing, including during TED talks or as a speaker at important conferences.
